Reference found in Leadley file at Whitby Heritage Centre, August 2007. "Maria Leadley married John Fletcher of Stroud (Gloucester) approx 1870 and settled in Scarbrough in 'The Bolts'. John Fletcher was a fish buyer who travelled the country.

1851 Census: James, wife Margaret, children Robert, Elizabeth and Sarah are living in Darlington Place Hartlepool in Durham. With them is daughter Ann, now married to John Adamson. They have a daughter Margaret, aged 5 months. James is a seaman, as is son Robert. John Adamson is an engine driver. James Middleton was born in Scarborough, c1794; John Adamson was born in Lumley, Durham c1827. Ref: HO107/2384/433, Page 17.

1861 Census: James, wife Margaret, daughter Sarah and grandson Robert, aged 15 months are still living in Darlington Place, Hartlepool. James is now a labourer in the iron shipyard. Their daughter Sarah is a house servant. Ref: RG9/3700/85, Page 11.

1871 Census: James and wife Margaret are living with their daughter Sarah who is now married to William Walker. Both families are living at 8 Robson Buildings in Hartlepool. James is listed again as a seaman. Ref: RG10/4916/9, Page 12.
